Why Shillelagh's (Shuh Lay Lee's)? Originally used by the Irish as a walking stick, club or weapon, this unique Blackwood stick was called a "Shillelagh". In the 15th century shepherds began using this club to hit pebbles into rabbit holes, keeping count. This is believed to be the origin of the amazing sport of "Golf" as we know it today!
While the name “Shillelagh’s” is rooted in tradition, the menu is anything but traditional.
The appetizers lead off with the “Taco platter”, which is beautifully displayed with seasoned ground beef, beans, fresh onion, tomato, and lettuce as the colorful centerpiece surrounded by an arrangement of their crispy homemade tortilla chips. The "Sidewinders” is savory skin on potatoes, rustic bacon flavor, topped with BBQ pulled pork & green onion. The diverse offering of appetizers includes a bavarian pretzel, wings, gourmet onion rings, white cheddar cheese curds, chicken quesadillas, and amazing angus steak bites. There is no reason to go hungry!
The salads are a fresh and crispy option for a side or make them a meal. The “Chef Salad” is a green mix topped with plenty of ham, turkey, and eggs to satisfy your salad itch. Add grilled chicken, sauteed shrimp or charbroiled steak to your “Shillelagh's Signature” salad to accompany the diced tomatoes over a romaine and spring mix. The creamy “Grandma Kiely’s Potato Soup” and a soup de jour are available daily.
The lineup of burgers consists of a solid assortment from the classic mushroom & Swiss named Swiss & Shroom, to the California, and pepper jack burgers followed by the “All Day Burger” which is appropriately named with double smoked bacon, hash browns, cheddar cheese & a fresh egg made your way. This burger is a must, any time of day!
The “Castro” Cuban sandwich brings a twist of rich and sweet flavors together on a grilled hoagie bun combining roasted pork, pit ham, a bit of Dijon mustard and a house made pickle. How about the meaty and cheesy “Rib Eye Cheese Steak” on a grilled hoagie smothered in sauteed mushrooms & onions, covered in a blanket of melted cheddar & mozzarella cheese? Two more outstanding options among a list of many great sandwiches are the “The Greek” gyro, and “The Hook” beer battered Cod fillet sandwich.
A variety of pasta choices topped off by the "Cajun Boom" with house made cream sauce with sauce with peppers, onions, mushrooms & tomatoes, served mild or spicy.
Indulge for Dinner with the 10-12 oz. Braveheart Premium Black Angus "Rib Eye Steak". The "European Walleye" is a delight, hand breaded, fried or pan seared with lemon pepper.
Shillelagh’s Tap & Grill is located a few miles north of McGregor, MN in the magnificent Minnesota National Golf Course clubhouse. Choose from the grill, dining room, or outside on the patio for a relaxed dining atmosphere while you overlook the practice areas and several holes from both the Championship and Savanna courses as they meander through the Minnesota wilderness. They have a full bar open seven days a week in the summer and in the spring until May 23 they are open Thursday from 3-9, Friday & Saturday 9-9 and Sunday 9-6 with pizza, a grab & go menu, and expansive tap beer selection. Dinner is served Thursday through Saturday and lunch is served Friday and Saturday. Spring Grill hours until May 23 are Thursday 3-8, Friday & Saturday 11-8 and Sunday 11-6.
